So I got some bibs at my baby shower and I know I'm going to need more and I was going to buy some burp cloths too but do I really need to? Can I just use a bib to put on my shoulder when it's time to burp him? I just want to know if it's one of those things that is really just doing double work and double washing using two different things.

I personally think bibs are the worst and highly recommend just burp rags. Then you can place the burp rag under LOs chin while feeding and fling it over your shoulder for burping with ease. I'm just not a fan of bibs, maybe once they hit that crazy drooling stage due to teething but not newborn stage.

It also might be one of those things you have to figure out what you and baby like and what works best for you.

Burp cloths cover a larger area and can be used to clean up other messes too, drool, snot, vomit etc. They can be flipped over and rotated to use for multiple feedings. Bibs protect the outfit the baby is wearing and if they are a messy eater can absorb the extra milk before it gets into their neck rolls which can get stinky if it happens often.

So yes I think both are necessary.

Definitely need burp cloths, sometimes a whole feed can come out, sometimes a small spit and u kinda don't know where it's gonna land and how far down your back it will go. Bibs are small and should be just used for drool and feeding really.

I used bibs for teething drool and when started solids. Didn't use burp cloths. Just used receiving blankets.

Burp cloths are a life saver. I hate bibs. I think I have around 20. I just pulled some out for my toddlers stomach bug to have handy.

The purpose of a burp cloth is to drape over your shoulder. This is because when you hold baby up high by your head to pat their back (burp) they will vomit (spit/up) all over your shoulder/back/chest are many times per day. Especially if they have reflux. I think they are highly necessary but a receiving blanket does the job too and I agree may be better as it covers a wider area. Without it you will be changing your adult shirt many times a day.

Depends on your baby! My DD was a puker she would puke all down my cleavage so I started putting one burp cloth between the girls. And one on my shoulder. Bibs were worthless to me. But we didn't bottle feed so IDK how it works with bottles.

I thought they were necessary. either for your shoulder or over your lap depending on how you wind baby. sometimes they spit up more and it projects on to your clothes rather than roll down on to the bib. used both. needed both.

I never used a bib only burp clothes/receiving blankets

The bib is not going to be able to gather the spit up like a cloth is! If your baby vomits up theyr entire feeding which happens sometimes, the bib won't catch it all, then even if the bib catches the throw up your going to have to take the bib off the babies neck while trying to not let the throw up spill out of it.

Burp clothes/receiving blankets all the way! We just layed them over DD and tucked it under her chin a bit.

Hehe oh if only your baby's puke was isolated to their own chest/belly area. I'd say you need burp cloths more than bibs until your baby is eating solid foods. You'll use a burp cloth to shield your own self from the mess as well. <3
